Two things stand out. Every northeast beach is also reachable by road, which is why shore hotels cluster there. Paradise, Yali, Voutoumi, Vrika and the Blue Lagoon have no road, so a boat is the only way in and each appears in exactly one listing in this catalog.

The northwest coast is Corfu's most dramatic stretch. Paleokastritsa itself is a set of coves under cliffs, about 25 km and roughly 40 minutes by road from Corfu Town. Sea caves along this coast are reached only by boat, which makes the village the natural base for the west's short boat trips.

Paleokastritsa

The main coves are swimmable from shore and backed by cliffs, with Alipa Port as the departure point for boats. If you drive out, you can swim here first and then join a boat for the parts you cannot walk to. Reaching Alipa from Corfu Town takes about 40 minutes by road.

Paradise Beach (Chomi)

Paradise is a white beach below cliffs on a headland north of the Paleokastritsa coves. There is no road. Boats anchor off it and you swim the last stretch, because landing on Paradise Beach is not allowed for safety reasons.

The 20 to 30 minute swim stop here is part of the Paleokastritsa Blue Caves, Paradise Beach & Yali Beach Speedboat Tour, which runs with a maximum of nine guests on the speedboat Gaia.

Yali

Yali is the second boat-only stop on the same 2-hour run, another 20 to 30 minutes of swimming in a bay that day trippers on foot never see. Weak swimmers are asked to stay on board or bring floats. The trip needs at least four bookings to run, and it is rescheduled in bad weather.

Sea caves near Paleokastritsa

The northeast coast faces Albania across the narrowest part of the strait, which runs 3 to 23 km wide. It is the most sheltered stretch of the island in the afternoon breeze, so the water stays flat when the west coast chops up. The maistro, a northwest sea breeze, builds from late morning and blows about 10 to 18 knots through most summer afternoons before dropping around sunset.

Mornings are the calmest part of the day. That is why most full-day boats leave between 08:00 and 10:00.

Barbati

Gialiskari

Gialiskari is a cove a short hop up the same coast, and the sailing trip stops here too. Cliff jumping is on offer and explicitly optional. The trip is easygoing overall, with sandwiches, fruit and soft drinks on board and a Blue Cave stop on the return.

Nissaki

Nissaki is a small bay on the same stretch, and it is a swim stop on the wooden boat Koryfo's day out of Corfu Old Port. That trip also turns at the Peristeres lighthouse and swims in the bay below the Erimitis forest, an area with three protected wetlands and 36 orchid species.

Kalami and Kouloura

Kalami is a sheltered bay and Kouloura is a tiny harbour at the northern end of the stretch, both driven easily from Kassiopi or the northeast hotels. Kouloura is sailed past on coastal cruises rather than used as a formal stop in this catalog. For swimming, the whole northeast shore works, and a rental boat from a local desk covers it well.

Five beaches in this guide have no road at all. Two sit off the west coast of Corfu, two on Antipaxos, and one is the lagoon at Sivota on the mainland. Each appears in exactly one catalog listing, so the choice of trip decides the beach.

Paradise Beach and Yali

Both are west coast, both are swim-from-the-boat stops, and both are covered by the Paleokastritsa speedboat. At Paradise, landing is not allowed, so plan on swimming in and staying off the sand itself. The whole outing lasts 2 hours from Alipa Port, which makes it the shortest boat day in this guide.

Voutoumi and Vrika on Antipaxos

Antipaxos sits just south of Paxos and carries the whitest beaches in the group. The big day cruise swims for 50 to 70 minutes off Mesovrika or Voutoumi, weather permitting, and the captain sets the stop on the day. The semi-private speedboat from Lefkimmi instead swims at Vrika and adds snorkelling in the Blue Lagoon, with 20 guests at most and about a 30-minute crossing.

The Sivota Blue Lagoon

Two full-day routes leave Corfu for water you cannot reach any other way. Both are long days, both are priced per person, and both sell as large shared boats except where noted.

Paxos and Antipaxos

Paxos is the smallest of the main Ionian islands, about 25 square kilometres with around 2,500 inhabitants. Its west coast has high white cliffs and sea caves, a habitat of the Mediterranean monk seal. Cruise boats stop inside for photos and nobody swims in the caves.

The standard day gives about 120 minutes in Gaios village plus 50 to 70 minutes swimming off Antipaxos. For a smaller boat, the Semi-Private Speedboat Cruise to Paxos, Antipaxos & Blue Lagoon starts at Lefkimmi in the far south, about an hour's drive from Corfu Town, with no pickup.

Parga and Sivota

This route crosses to mainland Greece, sailing past Kanoni and Mon Repos before the Parga stop. Parga is a mainland town in Epirus with a Venetian castle above the harbour, and beaches sit a 5-minute walk from town. The afternoon belongs to the Blue Lagoon swim.

At 10 to 12 hours with pickup, it is the longest day in the catalog, and lunch is on you in Parga.

Which day trip to choose

Choose Antipaxos for beach swimming and the caves, Parga and Sivota for a town visit plus a lagoon. Both include optional hotel pickup from north and central Corfu with a 20 to 90 minute transfer, and both exclude food and drinks. There is no single best side, only the right side for the day you want. The two coasts behave differently in the same weather.

• Northeast: calmest water, especially in the afternoon breeze, easy road access, beaches under Mount Pantokrator from Barbati to Kouloura, best for relaxed swimming and families who want simple logistics.
• West: the most dramatic scenery, Paleokastritsa's cliff coves, sea caves, and the boat-only beaches of Paradise and Yali, best for scenery and short boat runs.
• Town and south: Corfu Town's port is the departure point for the long day trips, and Lefkimmi in the far south launches the small-group Paxos speedboat.
• Offshore: Antipaxos and the Sivota lagoon hold the clearest water of all, but they cost a full day each.
